About
Dr. Steven R. Kraaijeveld is a lecturer and researcher at Amsterdam University Medical Centers and an associate fellow at the research consortium on the Ethics of Socially Disruptive Technologies. He completed his PhD at Wageningen University in 2023, after which he briefly worked as a postdoc at Radboud University's Interdisciplinary Research Hub on Digitalization and Society.
Steven was born in the Netherlands, but grew up abroad. He spent his childhood living and going to international schools in Prague, Shanghai, and Manila, where he completed his International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. He briefly joined his family in Guangzhou before returning ‘home’ to study. He obtained a BA/BSc in psychology/philosophy at University College Utrecht, an MSc (research) in social psychology at VU Amsterdam’s William James Graduate School, and an MA (research) in philosophy at Utrecht University, before successfully defending his PhD on the concept and ethics of vaccination for the sake of others at Wageningen University in June of 2023.
He shares his love for literature and his ever-growing book collection on social media, particularly on Instagram. He tries to bring what are sometimes considered inaccessible works—in literature, philosophy, and other academic disciplines—to a large audience and get people excited and thinking about them.
He has a sweet little cat named Tai Tai (Mandarin for ‘lady of the house’). Tai Tai, aptly named, was adopted in Shanghai and is living her best life. She’s the perfect companion.
On his Substack newsletter, Steven writes about subjects that combine his three main intellectual passions: philosophy, psychology, and literature. You can also follow his book reviews on Goodreads.
He also writes fiction and poetry, some of which is collected on this website.
