Dr. Steven R. Kraaijeveld is a Dutch philosopher, ethicist, and fiction writer. He works at Amsterdam University Medical Center and is an associate fellow at the research consortium on the Ethics of Socially Disruptive Technologies.

Steven spent his childhood in Prague, Shanghai, and Manila, where he completed his International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. He briefly joined his family in Guangzhou for a gap year, before returning to the Netherlands to study.

He did his undergraduate studies at University College Utrecht, where he obtained a BA/BSc in psychology/philosophy. Then he completed two graduate programs: a research MSc in social psychology at VU Amsterdam’s William James Graduate School, and a research MA in philosophy at Utrecht University. He went on to do his PhD at Wageningen University & Research, which he successfully defended in 2023. He subsequently worked as a postdoc at Radboud University's Interdisciplinary Research Hub on Digitalization and Society.

Over the years, he has shared his book collection and his love of reading on Instagram. He also writes on Substack (previously my blog), where he explores three of his intellectual passions: philosophy, psychology, and literature.

He has a sweet little cat named Tai Tai (Mandarin for ‘lady of the house’). Aptly named, Tai Tai was adopted in Shanghai and is living her best life. She’s the perfect companion.
