Dr. Steven R. Kraaijeveld is a Dutch philosopher and ethicist at Amsterdam University Medical Centers and an associate fellow at the research consortium on the Ethics of Socially Disruptive Technologies.

He also writes fiction. His stories are forthcoming in Epiphany and L’Esprit Literary Review.

Steven spent his childhood in Prague, Shanghai, and Manila, where he went to international schools and completed his International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. He briefly joined his family in Guangzhou before returning home to the Netherlands to study. He obtained a BA/BSc in psychology/philosophy at University College Utrecht, an MSc (research) in social psychology at VU Amsterdam’s William James Graduate School, and an MA (research) in philosophy at Utrecht University, before successfully defending his PhD on the concept and ethics of vaccination for the sake of others at Wageningen University in 2023. He briefly worked as a postdoc at Radboud University's Interdisciplinary Research Hub on Digitalization and Society.

He shares his love for reading and his outsized book collection on social media, especially on Instagram.

For his Substack newsletter, he writes about subjects that unite his three main intellectual passions: philosophy, psychology, and literature. He keeps track of his reading and writes book reviews on Goodreads.

He has a sweet little cat named Tai Tai (Mandarin for ‘lady of the house’). Aptly named, Tai Tai was adopted in Shanghai and is living her best life. She’s the perfect companion.
